Explore the Batu caves

The Batu caves are one of the well-known landscapes of the country for their jagged limestone studded caves and the temples carved out of these caves. These caves offer more than 160 different routes to explore and are truly one of a kind. They attract more than 5000 visitors a day, who climb a grueling 272 steps to reach the Hindu shrine at the top of the cavern.

The Hindu temple is a site of pilgrimage to not only those who live in Malaysia but also from the neighboring nations. The monumental golden statue of Hindu deity Lord Murugan is probably one of the most iconic features of the nation.

Escape the heat in The Cameron Highlands

If you want to quench the tropic heat when you are in Malaysia, take a trip to the Cameron Highlands. You will be welcomed by an emerald blanket of tea leaves covered by fairytale mist, all through the year, making it a favorite change of scene from Malaysian islands. You can also choose to tour the tea plantations and learn about their process and history.

Ride in a cable car

But do not forget to visit its most popular feature - the cable car rides to the top of Mount Machingchang and the sky bridge that offers breathtaking views of the island. The 15 minute ride provides a journey above the ancient trees and lush tropical forestry surrounded by dramatic rock formations. 

There are two viewing stations at 650m and 700m above the sea level that provide spectacular panoramic views of the island and its coastal seas. The cable car also provides access to a sky bridge, a breathtaking 125m curved suspension between two mountain tops.

Meet the orangutans in the Sepilok Park

Founded in 1964, this Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Center aims to rescue orphaned orangutans from poaching or pet trades and teach them to fend for themselves in the wild. The facility provides medical care for orangutans as well as few other wildlife species like elephants and gibbons.

The rehabilitated orangutans live in the wild in the reserve but are provided with free food, should they return. Young ones are also taught to fend for themselves in the wild with the help of other apes. The Center is used to educate locals and tourists about the wildlife, without interfering in the rehabilitation process. 

While visitors can’t interact with the animals, one can observe them from afar and closer during feeding time.

Scuba Dive In Sipadan

The triangular area between Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia is considered one of the richest underwater habitats of the world. Sipadan islands is famous for its diverse and flamboyant schools of fishes, turtles and sharks due its unique oceanographic environment. The islands are surrounded by active volcanoes and deep trenches covered with corals, and strong currents make it a paradise for divers.

Sipadan islands are also fiercely protected for the same reason, and rightly so. Do not fail to get your scuba suits on and swim along with the marine flora and fauna, when in Malaysia!
