
- Day 03: Overday Alexandria (B)
Early breakfast at the hotel in Cairo then transfer to Alexandria via the desert road –about 225 km– whereby you will start a guided tour to visit the Roman Amphitheater, Catacomb, Pomp Pillar & outside photostop at Qait Bay Citadel.
- The Roman Amphitheater Alexandria neglected during the early Islamic period and onward. In fact, it was until discovered during the middle of the 20th century. It became one of the most marvelous historical sites of the city of Alexandria. The Roman Amphitheater which we see today constructed in the 4th century AC
- Catacomb of Kom el Shouqafa it is 30 m. high and built from Aswan pink granite, the Pompeii Column is thought to have been a present from the people of Alexandria to Emperor Diocletian. Most of the remains found around the column can be seen at the Greco-Roman Museum. At the top of the hill lies the entrance to the Kom al- Shuqafa Catacombs dating from the first and second centuries. They have been discovered by chance at the beginning of 20th, century.
- Pompey’s Pillar it is approximately 25m red Aswan granite column with a circumference of 9m, was constructed in honor of the Emperor Diocletian., it was once a magnificent structure rivaling the Soma and the Caesarism
- Qaitbay Fort is a 15th century Islamic fortress built to protect the city from invading Crusaders. The Qaitbay Citadel is located on the northeast part of Pharos Island, on the exact spot that was once home to the famous lighthouse of Alexandra. The Citadel was original established by Sultan Al-Ashraf Sayf al-Din Qa’it Bay in 1544 as a fortress.
